		<description><![CDATA[Actually there can be little doubt that ADHD is genetic in nature. Brain scans in people with ADHD have shown a reduced metabolism in the brain and specifically in the premotor cortex and superior prefrontal cortex. There have been studied into twins that has clearly demonstrated that ADHD is primarily a gentic disorder (see International Consensus Statement on ADHD on my Blog).

When you dig further into the research you will discover that a parent with ADHD has a significantly higher chance of having a child with the disorder than a parent who does not have it.

If you suspect your son has ADHD, have him assessed by someone who is qualified (many family Drs are not). Ask lots of questions. Medication can help tremendously and so can things that you do as parent that can add structure to your childs life.

Read lots. I would highly recommend &quot;ADHD, The nature of self control&quot;, by Russell Barkley.
